Ashok Gaur JP

Ashok Kumar has been the Trustee of the Board of Shanti Niwas since 2011 and as a Chairperson since 2013. He is a New Zealand qualified and registered community pharmacist who has been running a Pharmacy for over 20 years in New Zealand. He is passionate about helping the community by channelling his professional skills and using them to support the vulnerable. Born and brought up in Delhi, he graduated in Pharmacy from the University of Delhi and moved to New Zealand in 1993.

Ashok has over 30 years of experience working with different communities and cultural and social backgrounds in different countries. He is quite positive about Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust's contribution to the community and wishes to further improve it. Ashok is a Justice of Peace and is available at the Manurewa Citizens Advice Bureau.

JP & Trustee

Ataur Rahman, MNZM, ACA, JP

Born in Bangladesh, Ataur Rahman completed his education in the UK and became a qualified Chartered Accountant. He migrated to New Zealand in January 1977 with his born wife and two young sons. He soon found his forte in the commercial sector and worked as a Company Secretary. During his time, he got involved in community work.

Ataur Rahman founded the Bangladesh Community in Auckland and is currently a Parton of Bangladesh New Zealand Friendship Society. He has served on the committees of Auckland Ethnic Council, Auckland Refugee Council, and Auckland Multicultural Society. It was at Auckland Multicutrural Society where he met Indu Bajaj and became a Trustee of Shanti Niwas around 20 years ago. He has since then enjoyed seeing the organization blossom to its current status and enjoyed working with fellow trustees, management, and seniors.

Ataur Rahman has been honored by the Queen with an award as Member of New Zealand Order of Merit(MNZM) in 2000 for services towards Race Relations and communities in New Zealand. He has also served as Honorary Consul General for Bangladesh in Auckland for 15 years until his retirement 3 years ago. He is still quite actively involved in community causes and is currently enjoying semi-retirement.

Trustee

Kumar Hari

Kumar joined the Board of Trustees in 2011. A Business Director , migrated to Auckland with his family about two decades ago. He is a supporter and contributor for various charities in New Zealand and India and involved in voluntary and community work.

He, with his business partners, bought a small trading business in 2002 and grew it into a substantial trading and manufacturing setup which was successfully sold to a multinational in 2018. Kumar is currently into Financial Investments and Commercial property. He continues to hold Directorships in businesses and Trusteeship on Charities. He takes a keen interest in Indian culture and classical music, fine arts and the Vedas and his hobbies include reading, travelling, and working in the community.

Professionally of a high standing, Kumar holds the membership of the Institutes of Directors- New Zealand; Chartered Accountants of Australia & New Zealand and other Institutions abroad.. He has international experience having worked in India, USA , Africa and New Zealand managing a number of highly involved businesses at very senior levels.

He has been actively involved and passionately with the growth and direction of Shanti Niwas since 2011. Along with his fellow trustees, Kumar is  looking forward to continually tailor and grow the offerings of the Trust.

Anna Kulkarni

Anna Kulkarni is an Engineering graduate and Management Post Graduate. Anna Kulkarni is associated with the Public sector in New Zealand for 20 years. She is from Mumbai and has made Auckland her home for nearly two decades now. She is passionate about Community service, people, and human rights.

Anna Kulkarni has been working with various community organizations and trusts for the last 30 years and is a trustee of Shanti Niwas for more than 10 years. Anna Kulkarni is very appreciative of Shanti Niwas and the difference it is making in the lives of senior citizens with the support and services offered.

Anna Kulkarni is confident about the support and services offered by Shanti Niwas to the Senior Citizens and the positive contribution made to the Senior Community.
