Indu Bajaj QSM, MSW


Originally from India, Indu completed her Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Social Work at the Lucknow University. She migrated to New Zealand with her husband and family from East Africa. She then worked as a Social Worker for many years with various Government departments and Voluntary organisations. In January 1994, she founded Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust to address various social, cultural, health and physical needs of older people of Indian and South Asian origin.

She was a Charter member of Rotary Club of Auckland Harbourside, Board Member of Asian Social Services and Committee Member of Pan Pacific South East Women’s Association.

She was a member of Multicultural Society of New Zealand, member of Community Safety Group facilitated by the Auckland Police, and, Volunteer Community Coordinator for the Office of Senior Citizens, Ministry of Social Development.

In 2001, she was awarded the ‘Queens Service Medal’ for her services to the community at large.

In March 2012, she retired as a Project Manager, Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust.

Ashok Gaur  JP


Hi, I am Ashok Gaur born and bred in New Delhi India, I have gained B.Pharmacy degree from University of Delhi . I am a socially oriented Pharmacist with an experience of working in the community for over 20 years in New Zealand .I am passionate about helping our community by channelling my professional skills & utilizing them to assist disadvantaged.

I believe strongly in family values and have been married for 32 years . I migrated to New Zealand in November,1993 & became citizen in 1999 . I am married blessed with two sons , a Doctor & Lawyer respectively. I am a very strong supporter of Indian Heritage & culture .I am associated with Shanti Niwas for the last 3 to 4 years . I felt very obliged and proud to when I am approached by Shanti Niwas governing body to be the Trustee of Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust.

I have over 30 years of experience working with different communities in different cultural and social backgrounds in different countries. I am very positive about the contribution Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust making in the community and wish to contribute to improve it further.

Ataur Rahman MNZM, JPrahman


I was born in Bangladesh, educated in the United Kingdom is a Chartered Accountant. I migrated to New Zealand in January 1977.

I am a Founder of the Bangladesh Community Organisation in Auckland and also involved in many community organisations such as, Auckland Multicultural Society, Auckland Ethnic Council and Auckland Refugee Council. I am a Honorary Consul for Bangladesh in New Zealand since 2003..

Anna Kulkarni



Anna Kulkarni is passionate about human rights, equality, freedom and democracy.
She has been working towards community well-being and humanity causes for the last 30 years. She is a qualified engineer and management post graduate and works for the Electoral Commission.
She is associated with Shanti Niwas or the last 10 years and very much appreciative of all the community services provided to support social justice to humanity.

Kumar Hari


Kumar Hari an industrialist, migrated to Auckland with his family about two decades ago. He is a compassionate and dedicated supporter and contributor for various charities in New Zealand and India , viz..St Johns, Forest and Bird Protection Society, Blind Foundation, Sankara Netralaya and various local community organisations …

Kumar is a Board Member on corporate businesses and Trustee on Charities. He takes a keen interest in Indian culture classical music, fine arts and the Vedas and his hobbies include reading, travelling, and working in the community.

Professionally of a high standing, Kumar holds the membership of the Institutes of Directors- New Zealand; Chartered Accountants of Australia & New Zealand, Chartered Accountants of India, Chartered-Company Secretaries of India and Cost & Management Accountants of India. He has international experience having worked in India, USA , Africa and New Zealand managing a number of highly involved businesses at very senior levels.

Kumar was invited to the Board of Shanti Niwas as a Trustee in 2011 and has been a very organised and involved member of the Board.
